Bernhard Kurz

Entertainment is his one great passion. For more than 20 years the producer Bernhard Kurz has been working in the show business. In the course of his career, the exceptional lookalike-shows produced by Bernhard Kurz have paved the way for his outstanding reputation as an expert in the matter of tribute shows. Since 1997 Bernhard Kurz has been producing the Las Vegas Live Show “Stars in Concert” at the Berlin Estrel Festival Centre. 4550 performances and more than 3.4 million audience make clear that the show is one of the most successful ones in Germany. Every evening, the world’s greatest doubles – from Cher right through to Elton John, Louis Armstrong and Madonna - appear on stage and allow the audience to indulge theirselves in the glamorous world of the music business. It’s a tribute to the superstars of the last 60 years.
Nonetheless, Bernhard Kurz also produced tribute shows about The Beatles (“all you need is love!”), ABBA (“Thank you for the music”), Elvis Presley (“Elvis – Die Show”), the Blues Brothers (“I’m a Soulman”) as well as about the successful record label Motown Records (“Memories of Motown”) with worldwide success. His production “It’s all musical” – a glamorous gala show about the most popular musical songs – brought him a step closer to the metier that had once drummed up his enthusiasm for the work behind the stage and for the entertainment business. Along with his brother, the musical producer Friedrich Kurz, he got musicals off the ground in the 1980s and it was also due to his dedication that musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber had such success in Germany. In 1986 the world’s perhaps most famous musical “Cats” was premiered in Hamburg. Two years later, “Starlight Express” started in Bochum and can still be seen on stage. In 1990, the Flora Theatre was built in Hamburg, especially for “The Phantom of the Opera”. International renowned musicals such as “Marlene” and “Shakespeare & Rock ‘n’ Roll” followed.
But it was not only in the showbusiness where Bernhard Kurz, who was born in Nu?rtingen in 1951, left his mark. Before his time as a producer he had already built up a reputation as a coach for various sports. Not only did he act as a personal advisor for professional tennis players and coached the national bobsleigh team but he was also the headcoach of the VfB Stuttgart athletics team and the national coach of the Kuwaiti handball team. Many friendships to top athletes and their coaches, like to the successful German bobber Christoph Langen and former German football national coach Ju?rgen Klinsmann, date back to this period. During the World Football Championship in 2006 the Klinsmann family stayed at the Estrel Berlin and watched “Stars in Concert” on a match-free night. In many of the sports that Bernhard Kurz was in charge of as a coach, he was active himself: “I was a good sportsman but always the better coach. And that’s also why I’m the better producer than the actor.”
Retrospectively, “Stars in Concert” is Bernhard Kurz’ “most important show”. The show opened several doors to other productions and brought him the reputation of
the best-known and most talented tribute-show-producer worldwide. Several awards for “Best Producer” at the “Artist Choice Awards” in Las Vegas uphold this reputation.
Furthermore, Kurz was awarded with the highly coveted “Reel Award” for “Best
Producer” in 2004 in Los Angeles. In 2006, Bernhard Kurz was presented with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his oeuvre. Since September 2008 Bernhard Kurz is the European President of the “International Association of Talent Agents and Producers” – an association on international experts from the entertainment business based in Las Vegas.
